Life with a DockATot
If you are at all active on Instagram and follow any type of “mom blog” accounts, I am sure you have seen the rave reviews about DockATot. Instagram was where I was first exposed to the DockATot brand, but I was hesitant to see the necessity of this item for us since we already own a boppy lounger, bassinet, and a rock and play. I then had a friend tell me that if her house were on fire, she would make sure her kids were safe and then go back to save her DockATot. With this type of endorsement, I decided this product was something we needed to try out.
The DockATot is “a multi-functional lounging, playing, chilling, resting and snuggling dock you can take anywhere.” There are two designs – The DockATot Deluxe, designed for babies ages 0-8 months old or 5-22Ibs, and the DockATot Grand, designed for toddlers ages 9-36 months old or 22-40lbs. We are giving this DockATot Deluxe+Dock – Silver Lining a try, and our newborn is fitting into it nicely.
The philosophy of the DockATot is “Babies need a nurturing and cozy surrounding and feel calmer being in a smaller environment, which mimicks the mother’s womb.” The DockAToT provides a secure environment for infants, by creating a defined space, which in turn allows them to feel safe. The sides and bottom of the dock are air permeable, which means, if the baby’s head turns into the fabric, he will still be able to breathe. DockATot recommends placing baby on his back to sleep, but the product is designed to be safe in all sleeping positions.
I love the portability of the DockATot. The dock is designed with two handles, one at the top and one on the side, which makes it easy to carry from room to room – even with baby in my arms. Our newborn has been home with us for two weeks, and we have already had the dock in every room in the house. I also love that the DockATot creates a designated “safe space” for my newborn that is an easy visual boundary for my toddler. I can lay baby down in the DockATot with a few reminders to my toddler that the dock is the baby’s space. She does love him tremendously, so sometimes it takes more than a few reminders!
We have only been home as a family of four for a few weeks now. My newborn is still in the sleepy phase, so I haven’t experienced how the DockATot promotes sleep, yet. Except it’s safe to say he stays asleep once placed in the dock. I am excited to see how my little one grows and experiences the DockATot. I’ll be sure to keep you updated!
