My First Photo Book with Pinhole Press
My daughter is extremely interested in photography – especially when it involves using my cell phone to take a picture. So, to build off of her motivation, I created a list of prompts for her in an effort to focus her photography into specific tasks. After I give her a prompt, she has to come up with what she wants to photograph to fit the prompt. For example, “Take a photo of your favorite toy.” This activity addresses both language skills and encourages creativity through photography. Win-Win!
The following are a list of prompts that I have used. These are just suggestions, so feel free to come up with your own.
- A Self Portrait
- Someone You Love
- A Favorite Toy
- Your Pet
- A Flower
- The Clouds
- Something That is Your Favorite Color
- Your Favorite Outfit
- Your Bedroom
- Your Favorite Snack
- The Dinner Table
- A Body Part
- A Shadow
- Bugs
- A Silly Face
- Your Favorite Book
While doing this activity I realized I was tapping into my daughter’s preferences and creativity, and I wanted a way to remember this. After searching for a way to preserve her photography, I discovered Pinhole Press and adapted one of their Books for Kids. I took the Custom Board Book of Names & Faces and uploaded my daughter’s photos and then paired each photo with the prompt I used to guide her to taking that particular photo. Her personalized photo book came within a week from Pinhole Press. My daughter screamed in delight when she realized what had been created with her images. So much joy!
