Toy Testing: Picasso Tiles Ferris Wheel Set

We just received our latest happy mail delivery from Picasso Tiles and were so excited with what we found. The package contained the PicassoTiles PT62 Kids Toy Building Block Ferris Wheel Set LED Light Children Construction Kit Magnet Tiles for us to test in exchange for our honest review.

This Ferris Wheel set includes the Picasso Tiles pieces to build a ferris wheel, LED light inserts for the square pieces, and different shaped confetti filled inserts to create sound blocks. My daughter pulled out the Picasso Tiles and immediately began building. Once I put together the Ferris wheel frame, she was then able to create a simple Ferris wheel on her own. An insert is provided with examples on more complex structures, which Sis needed more support to create.

The Details

  • PicassoTiles PT62 Kids Toy Building Block Ferris Wheel Set LED Light Children Construction Kit Magnet Tiles can be purchased on Amazon for $79.99.
  • The 2 LED blocks require 2 CR2032 battery – Not included
  • The 62 piece set includes: 1 Base Tiles, 2 Hexagon Tiles, 2 Wheels, 1 Axle, 2 Y Supports, 6 Square Tiles, 12 Triangle Tiles, 18 Clip-In Frame Squares, 16 Designer Clip-In Pieces, and 2 LED Clip-In
  • The set is recommended for ages 3 and up
  • This set fits together with other Picasso Tile kits
  • The pieces can be taken apart to fit neatly back into the provided box

Pros

  • The kit includes inserts for the square tiles that are filled with different confetti shapes and LED lights.
  • There is one ferris wheel combination that is simple enough for a three year old to figure out
  • The other Picasso Tile sets can be used in coordination with this set
  • The Ferris wheel frame adds an additional component that really requires problem solving

Cons

  • The batteries aren’t included and no where on the packaging or insert is this explained – only in the details on Amazon
  • There is one Ferris wheel combination that spins with ease. The other Ferris wheel combinations fall apart when you attempt to spin due to the weight of the tiles – oh physics!
  • My three year old could put together the simple Ferris wheel, but every other creation required my support.

Bottom line, my daughter loves building with the Picasso Tiles and the Ferris Wheel adds a nice extension activity. My daughter needed a lot of support when creating designs beyond the basic Ferris wheel which makes me think this set would be better for ages 5+ instead of the manufacturer recommended 3+.

*Disclosure: I was not financially compensated for this post. I received the PicassoTiles PT62 Kids Toy Building Block Ferris Wheel Set LED Light Children Construction Kit Magnet Tiles complimentary from PicassoTiles as a sample to review, but my opinions are completely my own.
