Introducing Seed Babies

Disclaimer: We were provided a free consultation and design and execution of our garden in exchange for collaborating blog posts. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Meet Annie from Seed Babies where her mission is to create and inspire delicious edible gardens. Annie learned to grow food while living in New York City’s East Village where she joined a community garden on her block and fell in love. Learning from her fellow community gardeners was such an amazing experience for her and is part of the reason why she started Seed Babies. She wants to give people that same experience.

After living in NYC for 6 years Annie relocated to Columbus and continued on her gardening journey. She now maintains her own 324 square foot urban garden while helping others build and maintain their own veggie gardens. She loves teaching people how to successfully grow food in their own backyards. She currently lives in Clintonville with her husband and two young children.

Our experience

We started working with Annie in September 2018. To get started, she came out to our house to assess our garden area. We are up against inconsistent sun and limited space, so we wanted to make the most of what we have. We picked out where the raised beds would go and talked about what vegetables we wanted to come out of the garden. Once we had discussed the foundation for everything Annie went home to make up the plan.

Based on our discussion, Annie put together a plant layout and planting schedule for us. She incorporated low light vegetables, vegetables that we highly desired in our garden, and pollinator flowers. Once we had made up our minds on sizing of the beds and plants, Annie put together the final plant layout that incorporated everything and took into consideration companion planting.

We placed these raised garden beds in early spring and referred to our plant layout and planting schedule to get started. It was so nice having our personalized planting guide right at our fingertips versus having to do all the research on google.

We are having a wonderful time this planting season observing and nurturing our little urban garden. One of the perks of being a Seed Babies’ client is the continued support Annie provides. The tips and tricks she offers via email and facebook are always so helpful. Somehow her tips arrive just when I need them – ex: don’t forget to thin your seedlings and best watering practices.
