Consistency is Key at Goldfish Swim School
Disclaimer: We were provided free swimming lessons by Goldfish Swim School in exchange for collaborating blog posts. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
We have been transitioning into our fall schedules with school and work, which means overall our schedule has been a bit chaotic. We have been getting my son to his swim lesson as much as possible, but sometimes that means we have had to switch the day/time of his lesson which inevitably means a different instructor. What is wonderful about Goldfish Swim School is that even though we have a different instructor, there is consistency built into each lesson, so my son knows what to expect.
Each class starts the same by having the children line up at the door before entering the pool area. When my son hears the instructor ask for the children line up, he squeals and heads for the door ready to give his high five and walk into class.
At the beginning of each lesson, my son know that either balls or floating shapes will be spread around the pool for him to retrieve. Once he sees that basket come out he knows it is time to work on his reach and pulls. This consistent activity has led to amazing growth in his ability to make unprompted swimming strokes in the water.
Duck cups are used weekly to condition my son to having water on his body in the water. As soon as he sees these cups come out, he knows just what to expect.
We have been attending swim lessons regularly enough for my son to anticipate what to do with special props. Towards the end of the lesson the big slide, the big rubber ducks, or floating mats come out to play. I love that the props are switched out each week to keep up the excitement.
It has been truly amazing to watch my son benefit from his weekly lesson at Goldfish. Each week he demonstrates anticipation for each activity and it’s obvious how much he (and me, too) looks forward to each lesson.
