Fall in Columbus – 15 Tried and True Things to Do

Another fall is upon us and some of my favorite events and outings happen during this time of year. Check out the list of 15 tried and true things to do this fall season.

Visit The Plant Kindness Project in Mechanicsburg, Ohio. This magical place started out as a personal garden and has evolved into a community garden and kindness initiative. Walk the gourd tunnel, take in the beauty of the flowers, and hang out with the farm cat, “Cheese.” Be sure to pick up produce at the farm stand, where nothing is priced and everything is donation based. Located at 2075 Bullard-Rutan Rd, Mechanicsburg, OH 43044.

Go Apple Picking. Nothing says fall like a barrel of apples and fresh apple cider. We have quite a few spots that we have checked out and really enjoyed:

Check out Chalk the Block at Easton on October 2nd and 3rd. This event features artists working to transform a 10′ square space into a work of chalk art.

Have some Fall Fun at Hendren Farm Market. Located in Johnstown, Ohio, this family owned farm features a market, corn mazes, jumping pad, playground, and much more.

Check out Harvest Blooms at Franklin Park Conservatory from September 25th – October 31st. Stroll amongst a colorful display of mums, ornamental kale, and decorative pumpkins to feel fall in all it’s glory!

Experience Pumpkins Aglow at Franklin Park Conservatory from 5-9pm on select dates: October 13-17, 20-24 & 27-31. The night includes a thousand glowing jack-o-lanterns, larger than life spiders, a foggy creek, skeletons and ghosts, and two pumpkin houses ready to be explored.

Find the perfect pumpkin at Schacht Farm Market in Canal Winchester, Ohio. Schacht Farm offers a large u-pick field and provides a low key pumpkin picking experience.

Take a walk through Hoover Gardens Haunted MazeRecommended for those 7 and up, (but my 2 and 5 year old LOVED it), the maze features spooky ghosts, goblins, and surprises around every bend!

Boo at the Zoo at the Columbus Zoo is a frightfully delightful event of spirited fun for the whole family. The zoo will be transformed into a Halloween wonderland during the weekends of October 1st-3rd, 8th–10th, 15th-17th, 22nd-24th, and 29th–31st.

Experience all the Fall Fun at Pigeon Roost Farm. Explore 20 acres of over 30 different fun activities from pumpkin vine zip lines to and expanded corn maze and more!

Take a Fall Hike to observe all the fall color. A few of our favorite fall foliage hikes include:

  • Rockstall Nature Preserve: A 1.1 mile loop that takes you through the woods, over creeks, and down a staircase into a holler. The holler is filled with beautiful open faced rock structures and flowing water. This hike is not stroller friendly.
  • Dripping Rock Trail at Highbanks Metro Park: A 2.6 mile loop that travels through the forest and along a creek. The fall foliage at peak is quite stunning.
  • Sweetgum Trail at Walnut Woods Metro Park: A 2.3 mile loop through the sweet gum trees, tall pine trees, and wildflower fields. The trail is perfect for strollers and scooters.
